Hello all, it's my first post here.

I'm coming in to the trade as a newbie and I am currently considering college courses locally (level 2-3, NVQ, AM2 etc). I will also be looking into finding basic work or hopefully even an apprenticeship in the industry as soon as I can.

I'm figuring out how to work on the NVQ portion of the course that would come next year. It's clear that you need to be working and/or gaining practical experience simultaneously in the trade in order to pass criteria for the NVQ.

Just how hard is it in your opinion to find someone to work for who will allow you to work towards your NVQ on the job, as a mate/improver or otherwise?

Is the reality that you need to work as a mate/improver or similar for quite some time in various jobs, or are people generally quite willing to help others through the NVQ process if you ask them and they are willing to take you on after completing the level 3 theory/17th and so on?

Thanks for your time.
