I'm currently self employed as a window cleaner, I started this 2 years ago after quitting my last job as Psychiatric Nurse, and previous to that I was a bar man, telesales, post man, tyre fitter, MIG welder and mechanical engineering apprentice. Missing out all the crap jobs in between you can see that I've done a fair few trades, I'm probably my happiest now being self employed but would be keen to move into a more skilled role and now I'm interested in training as a PV installer and domestic electrician.

Electrical work is something I enjoyed doing when an apprentice and I'd really like to get into the renewable energy market.

So i've looked at the Trade skills 4 U PV (Solar Panel Installer - Solar PV Training)Installation course, can any of you tell me what I should expect from doing this. I've read the reviews and obviously the course literature but would like to hear from the experienced point of view.

If I was wanting to become self employed as and electrical installer specialising in PV, would this course be suitable or would I need to do further courses to become qualified enough to strike it out on my own?

Is it advisable to become a fully registered electrician first, work as a subcontractor to gain some experience and build up confidence doing domestic work before going PV?

And finally the brutally honest question, will there be money in it for me?

Thanks

Colin

It's a lot harder to make money from it than it used to be, and you'll be up against a lot of companies who really know what they're doing, and with the best will in the world, you won't for quite a long time.
