The existing board is older and does not hav an RCD, i have installed a small Garage supply unit beside it to a 30A breaker and have taken the cable to the 16A RCD protected breaker on this. is this ok?

your post is a little confusing. 30A breaker? do you mean off the old board 30A, then into new RCD, then 16A mcb?

Yes a 30A breaker from the old board to a small Garage supply unit which has an RCD with a 16A and a 6A breaker on it. would a 2.5mm T&E cable be okay?

Have you installed solar panals on this job?

Get a professional in as asking if 2.5mm is ok makes it sound like you don't know what your doing TBH

Not being evil either, just being honest

Solar panels are installed its just putting the cable into the C.U. Thers no RCD so ive thought of installing a smaller CU with an RCD on it. No offence taken, still learning myself mate. The course I was on didnt cover if ther was no space or RCD, just spouting possible ideas.

depends on the loading. 2.5 will take 27A if not derateddue to installation method. .i would be inclined to use 6mm from your old board to the new one.
