Whhhhyyyyy????? Why do people snip cpc's off when its so simple and takes a matter of seconds to connect it!! All i had to do was replace a pendant with a 6ft fluorescent in the loft, tested for zs and no earth even though it was connected at the light! It was cut off at the switch so i joined it there, still no earth! Traced cable towards landing light but no cpc's and no permenant lives in fitting! They were stuffed up above the light in choc blocks and wouldn't pull through so i had to take boards up in the loft to remove choc blocks and connect them properly in fitting! Hour and a pigging half to do a ten minute job just because some cretin couldn't be bothered to spend ten seconds connecting a cpc!

You have my symapthies, Monkey. A few weeks ago I caught my colleague snipping off the CPC's when wiring up some new fire alarm detectors because "there's nowhere for them to go." Knob-head...

a) six MCB's all labelled just "sockets" How f***g useless. May as well have labelled them "electric things"
b) circuits labelled as "new sockets". Well they may have been new in 1971 when they were put in, but they all look the same now

On a brand new install, and some numpty is doing this to the earths! The builders in the next room came in to see what my roar of rage was about.

People who rewire a property but don't bother to remove all the old cable, leaving it bunched with the new to happily induce current for the next 40 years+.

I did a job once and all the floors and walls were full of old cables, you could see where it had bee re-wired three or four times over the years but never stripped out, made a fortune on the scrap

I'm just bumping some of the older threads in the general electrical forum that had a lot of replies. They might not be current topics, if they're not, just ignore them and they'll soon drop off the list. If you DO wish to add a reply and get the conversation going again, feel free to do so. Your input might help somebody else in the future.
