I've previously posted about doing a CU replacement for my assessment. I will also have to re-supply a small garage CU (20a radial + 6a lighting), which has been answer for me, thank you.

The property has a TN-C-S supply, which will be fed with new 25mm tails, 16mm EC. The garage is link detached, i.e. not separate from the house, but not integral. Do I need to consider the regs for separate buildings sharing the same supply (think it's 542.1.3.3)?

I intend to use a swa from the new house metalclad CU to garage metalclad CU. I have been reading about having same size EC for both, which seems rediculous in this case, I wouldn't have consider this in the past, but I think I have read too many books. Am I confusing the matter with larger commercial premises etc?

The garage des not have separate water/gas supplies or extraneous metal.

if the garage has extraneous metalwork, this will need bonding back to the house MET with 10mm. as it's PME.

If I understand you correctly, you are asking about the earthing conductor size. If you have no ECP's in the garage then you don't need to bond back to the MET. I have done several of these jobs recently and use 3 core SWA and earth the armour too. I check the Zdb at the garage, and using the adiabatic, check my CPC sizes will carry any fault current. I generally use 2.5mm 3 core SWA and you will probably find this is fine for your job too.

I've just reread from my copy of 'Practical guide to the 17th Ed' (by CK), which talks of more than one building sharing a supply, but having separate earth arrangements, which I'm not doing in this case, i.e. my garage EC will terminate in the main earthing terminal of the house CU. Am I right?
