Discuss Poor work - by a 'proper electrcian' in the Industrial Electricians' Talk area at ElectriciansForums.net

I myself as many on the forum, are opposed to these fast track course's.There is only 1 way in this industry IMO and it's the long route apprentership etc,but have seen guys with all the quals you can have very academic people but they can't hold a screwdriver the right way no practical know how what so ever!!.The point I am trying to make is if no practical on site experience, then quals don't mean nothing.IMO if you can't access on site experience (firms taken on trainees) then no enrolment of any such course.

I am with you on that dave and Blame Thatcher for the decline in our industry, No need to put my tin hat on either.

nothing to do with unions in the 70's bringing the country to a grinding halt then?

No, Thatcher was to Blame, her plan has backfired. You only need to look at Germany and the way they do business to see we got it wrong with selling everything off, stopping all manufacturing, the creation of sub contract labour through angencies and buying cheap from abroad. Germany makes everything themselves, they employ thousands upon thousands of apprentices and sells everything which inturn creates work around industry like electrical contracting for starters. They stuck with the method we once had before Thatcher, Major and now Cameron oppose. they will not be happy until the working man has no pension no NHS and no Dignity, I am getting Narked now just thinking about the Tory party. Cheers Tel.

youre blaming someone who hasnt been in power for 25 years and is now dead ?

have you any idea how effing ridiculous that sounds ?

i seem to remember the unions pulling the trigger on themselves and that part p was invented by labour.

do you think your own business would be as prosperous as it is now operating under todays free market or alot better under the high tax socialist dogma of the 70's that you think is so great ?

lol , if you want to make it political crack on , i prefer to look where the industries headed rather than how it might be under crackpot state control.

Nope, far easier to blame the Tories for everything. Especially Thatcher. Greedy Tory toffs, doing it for themselves, rich get richer, poor get poorer. And they want to privatise the NHS.
Socialism is the way forward - free money for everyone.

I was being sarcastic by the way.

not quite, adam. free money for scroungers, alkies and druggies. sod the working man.

Fluck off Biff :devilish: between 79 and 97 Britain ceased Manufacturing and also sold everything off except the Post office. Cameron has just sold that off, the billions in potential profit that would have gone into the treasury from that now has to come from somewhere and we will end up paying for that loss without doubt. During those 18 years of Tory rule hardly anything was spent on public spending leaving Britain a 3 world nation compaired to other westernized nations. Labour came to power and had to spend to modernize a out of date out of touch britain. The american banking system has caused major problems throughout the Modern world which lead to recession. If you look at the facts now regarding spending this Government has borrowed more than the Brown government which was slated by the Tory press. I was working at schools during the mid nineties and I know one had no heating, the kids had to sit in the hall eating sandwiches in their coats because there was no money due to tory policy. They couldn't even eat hot dinners as they were abandoned and only came back during the last Labour government. Why any working man or Woman would want to vote for a party who only cares about 1% of the population is beyond me, I could go on and on all day about the Tories, But am already tired of you prats on here defending them.

Um no Adam just facts, they flucking sold everything for fluck sake and we are basically an Island who imports not exports, and given half a chance they will sell the NHS, that will come along as will the end of pensions which are now 68 and 69 in the mid 40s.

Sorry Biff, but do not agree with you. Mrs T has a lot to answer too not just for this industry but every one of them. I lived through them years!!, saw the decline in apprentership , her policy was we don't need tradesman, just bye them in but we will set up a half cocked YTS scheme (youth training programme). that is why most company's did not take trainee's on for a good 20 years. Hence the state we are in now, or maybe I have just gone round with my eye's shut for decades!!.

can't speak for all privatisation, but before BT ( british telecom, as it was called then) was privatised, they were as efficient as fart in a thunderstorm. 1976, my business was almost destroyed by failure of phone line. it took them 6 weeks to fix a cable. on any mnorning mon-fri from 8.00am to 10.00am, line of their vans ( about 10 or 12 ) parked up outside the cafe. now a fault is generally fixed within 24 hours. hmmm.

I remember working for a company that had 40 pair on the books in the mid eighties, 40 apprentices/ Mates and 40 sparks, we worked all over the country, we made panels and switchgear and installed it everywhere. That same company is still going now, they have about 5 sparks and 1 apprentice, they use sub contract labour now and buy the switch panels and boards from China. Thatcherism? huh Flucking Bollox to thatcherism

Yep lets bring back Red Robbo, British Leyland, and the unions. 3 day week here we come. I don't want my bins emptying anyway! Daz

but you can't blame thather or any one else in government ( tory or labour) for the fact that the chinese can make stuff just as well, but far cheaper.
