Discuss Power Shower Issue - Advice needed in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi all

I have just spoken to a friend.

She is having a Power Shower installed.

The plumber has already started the job - he has done the pipe work etc.

Apparantly he has let my friend only just know that he wont be able to sign off the electrical side of the works as he does not hold the right certificates and that my friend has to get her own electrician in?

How does she stand when it comes to getting the electrics signed off.

I found it strange that the plumber cannot carry out and test and sign off the installation and that he has asked for my mate to get an electrician in themselves.

As far as I am awar the plumber has not even notified the work in advance etc.

He is charging £400 (2 days work plus parts) so that seems reasonable to mate but of course she has been told to get an electrician in as he cant sign the work off.

Is this weird guys and whats the recommendations you guys have?

I have not said I will sign it off as believe I cant do that.

Your quick replies would be most gratefull as online chatting to mate about it now and plumber is due back shortly (I only found this all out about half hour ago).

unless the plumber has full scope part p then he wont be able to touch anything electrical in the bathroom
Some plumbers gain part scope part p, in that they are covered to wire spurs to feed the boilers they are installting
kitchen fitters the same as it covered to wire in the kitchen

your mate will have to get a spark to connect the shower and test it
also is the new unit bigger than the last in its KW rating, if so make sure the old 6mm cable is big enough to cope with the new unit and it doesnt need upgrading to 10mm
also as new shower, does the circuit have RCD protection at the mains?

Just an update,

I have just been informed that the plumber has said he could do the wiring BUT he wont cos he does not want to risk it (very kind of him).

He is just going to fit the shower - there was no previous shower so will be new circuit needed.

Mate been told that only shower and pipework being installed will need to get electrician to do all the wiring.

Glad I got my mate to question plumber as I think he would have carried on doing everything.

Has said he knows an electrician but he is very bust - bearing in mind that the plumber was told that this all needs to be done by Thursday as the housing association are upgrading the bathroom suites so guessing they want the shower installed and electrics etc before its all retiled.

I am not part of a competant person scheme so I can do it.

Anyone who is and in the Andover area????

Maybe chuck my a finder fee

You're only powering up the pump in a power shower so 2.5mm off a 3A spur is fine. So check with the plumber again, he may be be able to do that under Part P.
