Discuss Powering Cooker hood.....with switched mains??? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Teaching someone something requires an explanation, not sarcasm or sniping, unfortunately that seems to be all you can do.
You've changed an awful lot over the years I've been away & apparently not for the better. Never mind I don't have to listen to you anymore, the Ignore button is a brilliant thing.

So getting back to the thread, I would say it would be logical to have a cooking accessory like a hood on the cooker circuit. However, would you take 6mm from cooker point to FCU or just 2.5 or 1.5 mm since that 2m run can't really be overloaded.

Hit the spelling button on this post for 6mm (or whatever the cooker circuit is run in) and the dumb button for a smaller cable such as 2.5mm and we'll have a little poll in thread.

Yes I was generalising somewhat, and there are always times when you make exceptions, hopefully having considered the implications should a fault occur.
Fusing down from a power circuit presents no issues, but feeding a cooker hood via a lighting circuit presents the possibility of the kitchen lights going off if a fault occurs in the extractor which could be dangerous.

That scenario would be the same for an extractor fan fed off the lights in a bathroom but we still install them that way.

It is not the same situation, there is no requirement for the kitchen extractor to be linked to the lights. There is a requirement in the building regulations for the bathroom fan to operate with the lights, therefore we are unfortunately stuck with having to connect the fan to the lighting circuit unless we install a relay to allow the fan to be powered from the power circuit.
Bathroom fans are an exception to the rule, not a justification for poor practice.

....All sorted now.....connected to the ring......all 175watts of it, with fan on full speed, and both lights on!!!
I certainly seem to have sparked a bit of a discussion here (See what I did there??!! :))

Many thanks BTW!!!
