Discuss R1 + R2 on RCD in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

just read nicks post and he explains it a lot better than i did,
i always disconnect every conductor of the circuit from the board when im doing that test, so ive never had the problem you said, but it makes sense that it could take the rcd out tho.

I have the same problem now on an EICR.
Radial Circuit is wired out an MCB, L+N through a bog standard RCD with the cpc crimped through. I have LN+E Disconnected out of the DB I have shorted my cpc And R1 with R1+R2 leads, go to the last socket and a recently calibrated megger 1502 trips the rcd on th ohms scale when trying to read R1+R2??
Anyone??

By pass the RCD, the RCD is seeing current on the Line but nothing on the neutral so is tripping out.

As it's an EICR it is acceptable to carry out an R2 only.
