Hello,

about 25 years ago I worked as an electrician, back then it was JIB Approved electrician 15th edition of the IEEE regulations.

After several years I left the business in the early 90's due to house market crash and other slump meaning lack of work; I went into the I.T. industry instead. However I was thinking about adding another string back t my bow by doing part time electrical work and therefore need to be qualified/registered as it were.

Is there a path for x-electricians like me to do a refresher course so I can work again as an electrician (initially in the domestic arena but I prefer commercial)

Any advice, most welcome

Thanks
EBrant

go for 18th ed. of the regs. now BS7671. the principals are all the same, just that standards are stricter, esp. as regards testing.and we don't bond metal windows and sink tops any more. ( as per 15th).

Weird just like me got out just before the big crash.

I called the JIB (I just quoted them my NI number and I am still registered as an Electrician) it seems to get the ECS card all I need to do is the H&S Test then I can apply for an ECS card but it will be worth getting the 18th ed under your belt.

Also someone posted this link in my thread so you can have a play at the H+S test, print out the ruselts as you can then build up a crib sheet.

I have just got back in after leaving in 2000 (16th edition).

I contacted JIB like SWD and was told I was still registered. Booked onto H & S test which you can download the questions for. I booked mine through Unite Union as the test result was emailed within 2 hours.

I have just completed a Part P course (4 days), 17th Edition (3 days) and 2394/5 Test & Inspect (5 days).

Spunkywade out of interest how much did the additional courses set you back and how where they as I seem as I get older find it hard to sit in a room and to study?

Apologies to the OP for going off topic.

I paid £2000 for all courses. They were run from part p - 17th - Test & Inspection. This was a good format as it built up the difficulty and as it went on I found it starting to come back abit. I also found that lurking around on this forum helped as I would answer questions posed by posters but only to myself.

I am now waiting for my results for test & inspect, 6-8 weeks!!!
