Customer no longer has E7 contract but still has separate E7 meter and contactor. Been asked if i can remove these as well as an old storage heater consumer unit. Should the customer organise the meter removal with the electricity supplier or could i just go ahead and remove them? let me know if you have any thoughts or have come across this before.

No the customer needs to contact their supplier, to change meter tariff to 24hr presumably, however you can remove storage heaters/ equipment.

No you cannot remove or otherwise tamper with an electricity meter, or any other apparatus, which is the property of the DNO or metering company. This is why they are sealed and generally carry some form of warning against such interference.

The guys are right Jackflash. I work for a DNO, and the law on this is quite specific. You cannot open up a meter for any reason.

recently had similar job. client changed tariff with supplier and asked them to remove the redundant E7 meter and timer. their reply was " get an electrician to do it".

Right.... I better tell the police that I moved a meter once then, oh and I have opened them up every now and then to tighten the terminals as blatantly loose.

That's a bit different to removing a meter completely though isn't it!

And it's not a police matter, it would be up to the dno or metering company to bring about the prosecution, and possibly the HSE

Did you ever give a thought to not responding like a child? I gave advice based on the law of the land. As someone said, it's not a police matter, but it is prosecutable. I suppose you can pee higher up the wall than me too.
