Discuss Rod set - worth it? in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

wouldn't go on a job without my 2 sets. cheapos for situations where they might get lost or damaged. super rods with LED end for apprentice to find in dusty, dead rat infested attic.

I've had the superrod set for about 2 years now, top kit. Well worth the money. Magnet and chain set has made its cost back (time saved) on the first job, led bullet is great for lofts etc, the cable grippers save time by not having to tape cables on and cut/rip them off.

I've had the cheap sets, and used trunking lid etc but these are one of the best buys I've ever made. That said, I'd keep a bit of lid in the van for those tight bends, I've snapped a couple of the rods and I'm sure I heard the pound coins falling out of the splintered ends!

I have a super rod set and a cheap set. The cheap set comes out when there's a slight risk of not being able to retrieve the rod. What I will say is although expensive the super rods are brilliant and notably better than the other rods used in conjunction with the variety of attachments you get with mega set. Well worth the investment as they've saved hours on some jobs.

I completely agree, I had a cheap Aldi set for a few years and recently decided to treat myself to a Super rod/megaset. So glad I did, they are not cheap but well worth it, the different flexibility rods are really useful and the cage that grips the cable is fantastic and saves a lot of faffing with tape, I also really like the light on the end of a rod.

Had a cheap set from Aldi served us very well for the cost however we have lost, snapped and got most of these stuck now. Does these magnet, chain, grab hook come as standard and does anyone know if they fit on other makes of rod.

No work today Ant?

The rods come in various set with the attachments, you just have to pick one that suits you. The mega set is the one to go for in my opinion.

As for fitting other brands, I really can't say. I'd guess no for the major brands, but there's bound to be a Chinese knock off. Knock offs may snap, and loose you're expensive accessories though.
