Safest way to run cable

Hello everyone! I have a tricky question:what is the best and safest way to run cable? Is it better to drill joist in the ceiling or it is better to just clip it along the joist?

safest way to run cable is sit back, have a beer, let it run alone. that way you won't be prone to a heart attack, cramp, backache, leg ache, senile dementia and all those other problems that sparks suffer.

would anyone notch to the middle of the joist errrrr no, get drill out. Clip along drill through.

Tho OP has not mentioned notching out joists what so ever, either drill holes or clip direct. If the cable run in within the bay clip it.
