I suspect they have a check list to follow and if anything is untoward then walk away. They were probably just following a prescribed method of work.

Just goes to show the namby pamby PC H&S Carp we have to put up with today, I had VA around yesterday, and they couldn't do the job because they aren't allowed to move furniture, lift carpets etc incase they hurt themselves, and this bloke was an ex squady, just remember this when you go into Mrs Smiths house to put a socket in, sorry Luv cant do this work because I have to move your Sofa, the mind boggles, that reminds me I have to move my Sofa tomorrow because my Son is going to rewire my phone, and I'm 71, -------,

no need for new tails. a few inches of appropriately sized heat shrink will fix.

...Only two comments... The replacement of tails,is made all the easier, because you have a nice picture of the pre-cut seal....
Other point,is why on earth do you want Smart meters? :)

It would interest me to know the reason why:confused:

"Asking" to have a smart meter installed ?

Dump the Henley block and run new tails in direct.

It's about time they pointed out that non-sheathed cables outside of containment or an enclosure is lacking mechanical protection and is unsafe and prohibited. Not a jobsworth in my eyes.

No he made a valid point but why not just get on with the job and rectify the issue at the same time, just for the sake of 10 more minutes.

As suggested by others, probably an issue of liability. His employer probably does not wish to get involved with customers' wiring.

I would imagine it would be because they are not qualified or insured to do the job, they probably don't have the necessary tools to do it correctly either.
Plus it could of course snowball into a much bigger job, at what point should they stop and advise calling an electrician?

Yes fair enough, it's just frustrating though. Just this minute had a call from a customer who's changing from oil to gas c/h and the plumber has told him that I'll need to put in an earth rod for the gas pipe ! TNCS earthing there and the gas service pipe will be plastic. The saying 'A little knowledge is dangerous' is so true.
