Because every respectable length of 1.5mm copper deserves a gold pin at the end! My Sainsburys value Liebfraumilch tastes so much better from a Waterford Crystal flute and the flavour of Kebabs are truly enhanced when served on bone china!

Some of this nonsense really does make the mind boggle, but there's a silver lining due to the placebo effect. Expensive trinkets for your audio system can improve your subjective listening enjoyment without having any effect on the performance of the equipment, purely psychologically. It's such a pity we can't chop out all the pseudoscience and fraud in the middle and let the enthusiast enjoy his 'upgrades' in full knowledge of the fact that they only upgrade his pleasure, not his hardware.

Power leads and connectors are often touted as a quick and easy, almost foolproof upgrade. To anyone considering this, I point out that the mains lead carries only pure 50Hz hum. If you can't hear any mains hum from your equipment, the upgrade won't have any effect. If you can hear hum, you need to get the equipment repaired first, before considering the upgrade.

I agree,that if a person believes an expenditure enhances their experience,then it can be so...
A while ago,i was sat in the barbers,with my two lads,and an animated fellow,in his late twenties,was engaged in conversation with the follicle engineer,enthusing about the "outdoor-life" and all things adventurous.

One of the many things he had purchased online,in his voracious quest for gadgets,was a quantity of "powdered water"

No amount of discourse,either scientific,or banter,could persuade him,of his suckerdom.

My 14 year old asked if he had heard of tartan paint,glass hammers or 3 speed walking sticks...no joy...
