Have seen two types of double gang socket outlets, single pole and double pole. Not sure what the difference is. My guess is one is for use on a spur and one for a ring final but would like a definitive answer. Thx
 
nope. a single pole switches the L only. a double pole switches both L and N.
 
As above,the other difference is cost obviously a dp socket is slightly dearer than a sp socket which sometimes influences peoples decision on which to use.personally I prefer dp switched sockets and many companies local authorities etc will specify dp on any work done for them.
 
I think you'll find that most if not all of the standard socket outlets from the better or named manufacturers are DP switched these day's. Only the budget brands tend to be SP switched...
