Discuss solar - worth the effort? in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I'm thinking about venturing into the solar field. Any thoughts or recommendations??
Is it worth bothering spending the money to get going??
Cheers

Honestly have no idea, so this isn't going to help you at all in my replying haha, but...

I've thought once or twice about it, but the way i see it is....at the moment, especially in my area im seeing more and more companys coming into the picture that specialise in solar energy, and because the market is limited at the moment i would say no, but that's not based on anything - so im sure someone more qualified can tell me that im wrong.

However, the market in the future will no doubt pick up, considerably IMHO...so it is probably worth looking into and getting a knowledge and understanding of it for a few years down the line when the work will become more wide spread?

Note : everything i have just said there could be complete tosh, as i have no experience in the field - thats just the way i see it. Open to opionions aswell.

from the waether we've been having recently, might be a good idea to get into water wheels.

what quals do you legally need to install pv? it looks simple enough
i,m 17th ed been a sparky for 44 years btw

Why the hell do you want to be climbing over or working on potentially dangerous roof's in your 60's for?? Look for something a bit more cushy to get into!! :)lol!!

Are you talking about working for a P.V company or selling and installing P.V?

To get into the P.V business you need the services of scaffolders for obvious reasons, roofers to fix the panels and make good any roof damage, before and after and sparkies qualified to connect generated power back into the grid.
On top of that you need expertise in filling out the paperwork correctly for the F.I.T payments, probably harder than any of the above.

I'm not in the renewables business just an observer.

Thanks for the replies!
I was just wondering about it as I've been asked to do it a few times but not bothered.
I know I've missed the initial money making madness when it first kicked off but just thought it could be another arrow in my quiver.

also thanks for the replys
perhaps photo voltaics ,s are not for me--
maybye mountain climbing, or lion taming in a circus?
