hey to all you sole traders, am in the middle of getting myself off the ground, im wanting to go as a sole trader, but am thinking of protecting the company name, either by trade mark or registering with companies house as ltd company and keep it dormant? are there any other options? what have you guys done? would you advise protecting the name?
cheers guys!!
danny.

The only way to protect your company name is by trademark, Even if you go limited this dose't stop a sole trader using the same name:rolleyes:

if you expect to become very big then maybe worth looking into, personally i would cross the bridge when needed even if it meant rebranding in future not a problem worked out for "marathon"

register a domain name now...only a few quid per year. Then in the future if someone nicks your name you will have a good case, assuming you was the first.

I your that bothered that someone is going to nick your name or logo print a copy sign and date it with a witness pop it in the post to yourself registered so you have to sign for it then just file it away unopened (that bit is key)

Then if it does go to court or whatever you have a signed and dated piece of evidence.

Alot of people who want to patent something do this if they cannot yet afford the patent/copyright
