I have isolated the fault to an area of a room but there is no access at all !

I know there is always a logical explanation for faults but given the size of the property and how unorganised it is its completely unrealistic for anyone to suggest they would find it in a day, without seeing it as they have been claiming!

Earth leakage meter is not something Ive needed before, our installs are almost all brand new and tested accordingly

As mentioned before i wouldn't normally delve into fault finding this much but I've kind of inherited this problem.

It's ''NOT'' completely unrealistic to find a RCD fault within a day, an experienced electrician used to fault finding, would have little to no problem tracing out the cause of that fault in a domestic setting.

That last paragraph above, should be telling you WHY an experienced electrician will find the fault, while you will have trouble finding the fault!!!

RCD's are here to stay, no matter what type of installs you normally do or don't do. A leakage clamp tester should now be seen as an essential part of any electricians test kit. MFT RCD testing, is fine for new RCD breakers, but when it comes to fault finding Nope!! Ramp testing with a MFT can only give you very limited information, whereas a leakage clamp can lead you directly to the source of a leakage problem....

I can just picture Trev caning it up to Glasgow in a mucky yellow robin reliant with $$$ signs in his eyes singing fog on the tyne.

I'm just bumping some of the older threads in the general electrical forum that had a lot of replies. They might not be current topics, if they're not, just ignore them and they'll soon drop off the list. If you DO wish to add a reply and get the conversation going again, feel free to do so. Your input might help somebody else in the future.
