hi

is there a steel terminal box that caters for wires coming from inside to outside, all the terminal boxes i've found don't have holes at the back. i was just wondering what would be the correct way to feed a wire through the wall into a terminal box (then through conduit to a camera outside) do i just drill a hole through the box?
hope it makes sense

thanks

Most enclosures or terminal boxes you can drill a 20 or 25mm hole in the back and use a male adaptor and conduit through the wall if necessary.

You can buy back outlet (rear spout) conduit boxes, with 0,1,2,3 or four side outlets. Example below.

oh snap, those are what i'm looking for.
i've seen some with the rear spout but they didn't have any other outlets.

any idea where i get hold of those? (preferably not online)

When we need them we order them in from a wholesaler, usually takes a couple of days to arrive. The only ones I have left here have one side outlet IIRC.

oh ok.
whats the correct way to install those, surely i wouldn't need to drill a 20mm hole through the wall just to feed the conduit to the terminal box?

Is there a reason why you want a steel box?
A Wiska box will suit most requirments, it has rear access and several tapped holes for 20mm conduit and gland connections

no reason in particular, just thought it'd look better with everything matching. that wiska box is a good idea too, cheers

if using a wiska box rear entry, it's advisable to seal top and sides between box and wall with silicon to prevent any moisture getting in the cable entry.

thanks for the replies.
can anyone advise on the correct way to install the steel terminal box, how i'd get the wire from inside into the box, do i need to drill 20mm hole all the way through?

Sometimes having a small piece of conduit for a wall void can be a nightmare espically when threading both ends... that's why they invented nipples. (Threads)

What is normally done in this situation, is two boxes with 20mm holes drilled in the back, then a short length of conduit between the wall connected to the boxes with couplers and bushes.
Using boxes with the rear entry spouts would be more robust, and probably provide a better seal against the ingress of moisture.

Appreciate all the replies, thanks

Never had to drill a 20mm hole, would an sds drill with sds drill bit be able to do this size without problem?
