Discuss The 'you don't need to change it socket' in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Afraid not, it's only 2.5mm. I think it must have started as a radial when the house was smaller and over time when it was extended they added more and made it a ring but didn't update the breaker or take into consideration the size of the ring.
It's a house full of bad practices, bodge jobs and horrendous work.....like the one lighting circuit which was obviously a tad to short to make it to the board so it terminates into a connector block just above the board and a little piece goes from that into the board

So, you're a 3rd year apprentice who bought his house off of the in laws.
Question 1 did you get it at a good price?
Question 2 was it a good enough price to factor in a rewire?
Question 3 actually it's not a question it's a suggestion - get in there with a supervisor and rewire it to how you want including everything you'll need for the future. If you were a florist I wouldn't suggest this but you are probably in a great position to make it work to your advantage.
Just don't get your father in law to help!

It is MK and one thing you can be certain of todays MK sockets won't be working in 50 to 60 years time.

you may find that that 7/029 tinned copper cable is good for another 5o years. it's far superior to the solid 2.5mm we're stuck with these days.

my previous post showing the usb twin socket. the red/black is tinned copper 7/029 from 60's still in perfect nick. biggest problem was the lights wired in a combination of twin and singles. no cpc's. ended up completely rewiring the lighting just because customer wants s/s switches.

In the name of equity, can you show us any pictures of your father-in-law's cabinet making/carpentry? ...it seems only fair, after ripping his installs :)
