Hi All

looking for some advice again.

I got a room in a care home that is reaching 29 degrees C on a day to day basis.
There is an air conditioning unit in there but that is not making any difference.

This room is an internal room with no external walls (with another 2 floors above).

We have today installed a new ducting system from this room travelling 20m to an external wall. The air conditioning unit is connected into this (blowing its hot air (about 60 degrees C) in to it out of the building). This system has in-line fans installed on it. The First being a 565 m3/hour unit and the second being a 254 m3/hour unit.

With this system we now have the room down to 24 degrees C, but this is still to hot!!! The room is a Medication room and must be kept at 20 degrees C for medication reasons.

I am also concerned about the long term and short term effect of running 60 degrees C air through these fans constantly (from the air conditioning unit). This run is the shortest route to the outside!!
The piping is all 4" waste pipe to minimise drag and resistances. There is also another fan from a sluce room connected to this system (between the 1st and 2nd fans) via a 45 degree "T" connector.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, as we need to get the temperature down!
The client does not was to invest in a roof mounted air conditioning unit, so this is not an option!

Are adjacent rooms unaffected, is this a recent phenomenon, do heating pipes run under the floor. Installing extraction is not likely to resolve the issue you need to know what is creating the heating affect.

Portable air conditioners draw the cold air from the room and limit the chance of cooling.
If you can position the air conditioner in another room and duct the cold air only into this room then you may have more luck.
Ventilation to allow air ingress to the room will also help.

I assume you have installed the fans such that the air conditioner is not being overloaded on air flow being forced out of the unit and that the different flow rates of the fans are accounted for so that they are not working against each other since the 150mm timer fan (for which I assume the timer is not used) can deliver over twice the air flow of the smaller fan (though this will be limited by the small duct size) and so may be just trying to push past the second fan rather than the second fan assisting the air flow.

Most fans should be able to cope with up to 60°C air temperature but no more, but the ambient temperature should be limited to 40°C.

No the adjacent rooms are unaffected. I dont know about the pipes in the floor, but I do know there are Rad and water pipes (Hot and cold) above the false ceiling. But above the false ceiling is cooler than the room!

Love the idea about blowing air back into the room. Any recommendations on which controller to use?

Something like these....most you find will be from hydroponic shops. I've used one before for a similar situation in a vets called prime air but can't seem to find it.

This is not possible

There is a 2nd draw from the sluice room next door so this assists in this.

Yes, great idea :) ... Currently peaks less than 5C and if you reverse the fan it will be ice-cold in there pretty quick. I haven't used these, but here's a link to a temp controlled switch that might be worth a look.
