Hi All,

Could anybody help me to understand the connection between harmonics and voltage drop in multi-core cables. I understand that voltage drop is directly proportional to the load current and length and inversely proportional to the cross sectional area of the cable.

Will the additional load due to harmonics get added to the total load and incorporated in the voltage drop calculations?

For loads like LED luminaires there would be a maximum of 20% harmonics.

Can you get me a table that lists voltage drop per metre for 3 core standard cables?

Many thanks for your help.

Regards,
Sunesha

Hi Sunesha, not sure of your background, but doubt it you will find the tabulated information you require, if you can get hold of a copy of BS 7671 the IET Wiring Regulations, and read through Appendix 4 page 328 that may give you some insight to the complexity of what you're asking.

Hi Sunesha, with your batchelors degree in electronics aren't you supposed to be telling us how that works?
