Was at a live music venue on Saturday and found this in the dressing room! The cable disappeared into a foot hole in the stud wall where this could have been easily wired into the lighting circuit. I wanted to switch it off to see where it went........., we think it went out to the lighting circuit for the the fire exit corridor! :)

As long as it's got a 3amp fuse in it, it's fine haha:D

I would have pulled it, doubt it does the exit lights but who knows. For at least six months every Saturday when I exited my local Sainsburys I switched off the key switch for the overdoor heater just for the hell of it, yeah childish I know but then one week some git had relocated the switch to spoil my fun.

I've not yet had the pleasure(?) of setting foot near a film set.
Theatres, events and festivals are my preferred area of operations
Seems a long time ago working on Superman and the 007 Stage I suspect it is a different world now and you certainly wouldn't be connecting up live to the dc busbar boxes which floated about for the arc lamps.

Apart from it being AC I'd say not a lot has changed in some places.
I suspect you are right. Pinewood had its own generating plant for the set lighting and an artesian well for much of its water. Met and worked with a lot of clever/crazy people which sadly we will never see the likes of again.
