Discuss Where to find "square headed" bolts for battery terminals? in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Couldn't you just use a normal hex headed bolt? As far as I know the square head is just to stop it spinning when it's being tightened unless there's a reason I don't know about.....

Until now I have been using hex headed bolt because they are much cheaper: I can buy a hundred of them for only £10.

In comparison these battery terminal bolts on ebay cost £1 each! Is there not a place where I can buy them in bulk?
I remember now that I did look on ebay and found the ones that you mentioned. But I am looking for bigger quantities.

If these are standard 1/4" Whit clamp fasteners, you may struggle to get the exact replacements, some being specially plated or "leaded",in the past.

The only time i can remember seeing individual components, such as these, was from specialist suppliers of DC equipment, catering for the likes of forklift, access and stand-by machines.

The street lighting lads, used to forward me some lovely M8 SS square head bolts, about 40mm long, which had "bites" at the four corners,to guarantee an electrical connection,on earth strapping. These would be ideal.

...Or just do what 99% of all farmers do...knock on,and remove, with the claw hammer, left in the battery box...
