Hello guy, new to the forum..

Im currently gaining experience on testing and inspecting. Iv been reading a few post and noticed alot of people do ze test before quoting a job on eg installing a socket/s. Why do this? Thanks in advance nice people :)

If you alter an existing circuit by adding a socket you have a duty to ensure that circuit is functioning correctly. By testing it at the quotation stage you then know if remedial work on the existing circuit is required and can inform the customer in advance and price the job accordingly.

**edit** Same reason you'd IR test the installation and check bonding is present and test for borrowed/shared neutrals before you quote for a replacement CU.

You may want to do more testing than a quick Ze too, and maybe a small inspection. Have a read of 132.16 about this issue.

Ok got that thank you very much sir!! Just a follow up question.. how would one check to see if neautrals have been borrowed? Sorry for the simple question.. i am a trainee lol

Separate all the circuits and test between them. I've never seen a copy but aren't all the testing procedures outlined in GN3?

Hi mate, you are down in your profile as an Electrician, yet you state you are a trainee, might get more sympathetic help if you alter your profile and get yourself access to the trainee forum, not having a dig just trying to help, all the advice you have been given is sound advice.
