Wind Turbine Technician

Hi guys,

My first post so go easy on me.

I am looking for anyone who is or has been employed by EDF ER as a wind turbine technician or junior technician. I have been invited for an interview and am really keen on the switch but would like to know what they are like to work for?

The salary seems average but they talk about benefits packages etc so does this bring the salary up to a descent level?

I may also have to relocate for the role so do they have any allowances or expenses to help with this or would I just have to take the blow untill i could progress?

My neighbour is one for Siemens he seems to like it he works 4 on 4 off from what hat he tells me is that Siemens offer the best training but pay the least or one of the least

Ask your questions at the interview Brian, you need to ask questions like

1) What does the relocation package contain?
2) Shift Rotas if any
3) Salary
4)Benefits, Pensions etc
5)Sick Pay
6) Annual Leave etc

You know the sort of thing people on here can't give definite answers unless they actually work for EDF

Cheers guys, the role is for a junior technician so I know the salary will be failry low but from what I can find they seem to offer good benefit packages and possibilty of progression etc but i'll ask at the interview like you said.

If it's anything like the others then they'll give you a small electrical test during the interview, nothing difficult it's just a basic questions on ohm's law, transformers, 3 phase etc.

I bet there is a shedload of h and s questions in the interview, brush up on employees responsibilities.

I work or EDF but for there generation business as nuclear engineer, so cant speak about that exact role but in general they are fantastic company to work for and offer very good pensions etc.
The really look after there employees most people who work for them are very happy in there job.

If you get the job,try to work your way up to being a "Blue-coat"...these are the shadowy elite engineers who only socialise with each other and get their instruction from ministers via an i-pod. They are tasked with maintenance,monitoring and supervision of the selected group of turbines which are POWERED by the grid,in order to generate wind to drive the others. This enables the public to generally always view some turbines turning,thus subconsciously accepting there use and the inordinate amount of funds required to sustain them. The downside of this arrangement is the cost of electricity,which has to be passed on to the public,disguised as a green levy. Anyway,if you get the gig,do some diggin' and remember,the government loves a whistle-blower...:mickey:

A bit late maybe, but one question our riggers are asked is about responsibilities regarding safety harnesses, inspections etc
