I take it you mean it trips randomly? it can only trip 1 way on or off

clamp meter for a start. and for what it costs, swap the MCB for a new one. could be a history of diy causing it to trip repeatedly in the past and now it's as tired as i am.

We know as much as you and you haven't even been to look at the job, so how do you expect us to know what the fault is ?
for your info i've called out to job & changed mcb was just wondering if anybody else had come across a similar situation before i head back with my megger ta.

I could think of probably about 30 different issues off the top of my head that could be causing problems, but just testing the circuit in the normal fashion would be far quicker than looking for them all. Hence my last post.

Did you not take your megger when you changed the MCB?

So, in no particular order:

1. Rodent damage

2. Heat damage from LV downlights

3. Water ingress

4. DIY damage

5. Loose cable in light fitting or switch

6. Overload due to too many lights on circuit

We are guessing without more info!

ok thanks had just called in on way back so didn't get in too deep but there are just 6 pendants & flouro in kitchen, no outside light on circuit so will give it a go next week.
