is there such a thing as a s type 30ma rcd if so would this acheive discrimination with a standard 30ma rcd. if so i suppose this could be used on a split board. dont fancy chasing all cables 50mm deep

S type RCD's start at 100mA appendix 3 of the 17th regs

It doesn't have to be applied retrospectively does it? Basically, after June, if you go to do a job in a house and the cables of the existing wiring are buried less than 50mm (which of course they will be less) then do you need to RCD / RCBO protect that circuit even if you've not worked on that particular circuit?

I hope not! Can you imagine the problems that would cause!!!

A 30mA s type would not trip within the required time, so would not comply

And the 17th is out now - you can use either.

And retrospective???? YES!!!!!

rather an answer here, i will start a new post, it will be of interest to a lot of people, i think. i will title it Retrospective application of the 17th edition
