my mate has just built a large extention on his house, and i was wondering does his new sockets and switches in the extention have to comply with the building regs ie 450 for sockets and 1200 for switches or can the be put at the same hieght as existing ones in the original house which on an average sockets are around 220 and switches 1800?

also will he need to put in a 230v smoke detector, there is no paper work for this but i thought it might have to have one?

yes but the explanation as for a new extention on an existing house was a bit vague?

an extension can have switches and sockets the same height as for the exisitng circuits

Part M of the building regs only really applies to new builds

better off checking with building control officer; some of them have their own ideas. plus he's the one who's to pass it in the end.

Part M is quite specific and LABC's HAVE to follow it, as with the other building regs

Someone from the council told me i need to " be Part P qualified" (whatever that is) to move a BS4343 (BS EN 60309-2 in new money) three phase outlet in a workshop!!!!
