Hi guys I have been looking at buying an earth leakage tester as it seems to be a useful piece of kit to have in my collection if anyone could recommend any which would be good quality? I am also using a borrowed mft as sadly mine kicked the bucket and I'm torn between megger and fluke if anyone has any advice on that either. Thanks

ive got a little di-log earth leakage tester seems to do the job, after using it in combo with ramp testing on faults it seems about 2mA out

no advice on the mft I'm afraid, I use a kewtech and it does the job and was cheap

Megger DCM305E for the earth clamp/earth leakage. Pretty good you can actually put it around L-N and it will measure the difference between the two. Which is pretty clever. A little bit pricey for some though.
I use a kewtech 65dl. I am beginning to worry about the accuracy of the earth loop test. Not that the machine needs calibrating or repair, but its resolution for Ze is questionable. Others on here think Megger is the bees Knees. Depends what your budget can stand really. I think they all do a good job given that the more you pay the more tests you can do. My friend uses a seaward tester I've used it with him and it seems fine nice and solid and consistent and also cheap.

Hi V - anywhere to recommend to buy that clamp meter? I too have the kt65 - mine has been fab. Are you thinking about the low Ze situations?

low Ze situations
Presactly that, as I have said before DNO 0.11 with megger me with kewtech 0.03. Yesterday .044 Ze and as kewtech said well its -+ 6 figures not very confidence inspiring. It has just cast doubt in my mind. P.S. yes I did have ATT off.
I went to Napit expo in Bristol they were selling them for £169 +vat. So that is the best place. So paid £199 Napit sell them online at 239 I think. The demonstration at the show was quite impressive. Apparently they are so clever because of a shielded jaw, who knew?

Thanks - but I've missed that now :(.
On the MFT, I've not had any concerns, but I don't come across sub 0.1 so I may be lucky after all.

I heard this guy (bit of a cheeky blighter) said he attended the show with me and they had sold out, and they told him he could phone Napit sales and ask if they could do it at the expo price. I suppose you have to admire his chutzpah, but really! Sigh!!

@Vortigern I see you have the same concerns i do about loop testing at low values with kewtech kit. did you see the thread i put up regarding accessing the calibration settings for loop tests? if your mft is out you can adjust the settings and add or minus values to get it on. I do agree that the issue is the 6 digits margin of error kewtech give the mft though. not good at all. The sequence the kewtech bloke told me was for a 64dl but i think it might work for a 65dl too.

I have just read your posts and I am not keen on that margin on the kewtech, it's a long term investment so I'll probably go a but further up the ladder. I want to have confidence on what I'm filling out on my sheet lol

no problemswith my megger. as with most MFT's an ultra low resistance ( or Ze ) may cause problems. in that case i use my 0.4 ohm wander leads in series and then deduct from the meter reading.
