Hi , anyone have a good background in using inverters in off grid system or possible mains & off grid with changeover switch.?
After some info on working out sizing/fusing of inverter, preferably 12vdc-230v ac or maybe 24v dc-230v ac depending on cost and performance differences.
Hope for some previous experiences/installs for help on an exiting project.

What exactly are you looking at powering as this will have an impact on what you use and options that are available.

My experience stems from working with on line 10 TO 25 KVa UPs installations, sometime series installs, but mainly stand alone.

Mate of mine out in the sticks in France, and off grid initially, just used a couple of 'life expired' computer UPS's and did similar with the AGM batteries for the power bank - all came from same industrial refit (albeit a navy dockyard!) all the kit still works now 7-8 years on!! The only thing he couldn't run was big rated heating elements but with LED lighting, gas cooking and wood burner he was able to stay off grid for years, in fact he still can for when the overhead supply fails.

Nor strictly living Off grid when you have to use the grid to charge the Batteries, is it.

I have solar panels and a big inverter ooh err saw a company offering grants for a battery system that’s hooks up to it all, was wondering if anyone had made their own or got any details. Might be of use to OP too. Use electricity generated during the day to charge the batteries with minimal load then use the batteries to feed back into the dc side of inverter?
