Hi,

I have noticed that there is loads of different options for these courses now, what’s your opinion?

Eal v city and Guilds?

Eal seems cheaper and exam seems easier with these course content. Are they recognised the same?

Thanks

To be honest, I don’t believe the EAL courses are considered the same as the C&G ones.
They are I believe accepted by the JIB for grading but not necessarily by employers.
EAL accepted by the scams? of course.

City and guilds changed back to 2391 if rumours are believed because people were going to eal as it had no long written exams. The new 2391 courses are multichoice the practical is the same. They say its to avoid confusion etc etc but exam centres are cynical like me

New 2391 and EAL are the same.

2394 & 5 were slightly harder with written exams and old 2391 was harder again.

Seems these courses get easier and easier.

Apprentices at our place and all the class are on EAL as the college believe city and guilds have dropped in terms of standard and quality.
Employers will have little choice if your qualified in either C&G or EAL as it will be basically discrimination to choose one over the other .
Unfortunately too many dinosaurs in the trade who don’t look to the future.

I know the 2394 and 2395 were open book with EAL and closed book with C&G. There was the thinking that employers would choose C&G over EAL becuase you just had to know the answers with C&G as there are no books to look in. I know that annoys the hell out of people who did the EAL version.

You are quite correct but the dinosaurs are not who think they are it's the schemes and quick training providers who are presiding over a great race to the bottom while not looking at the industries future who are the real dinosaurs
To get back to where I think your comment was aimed there are a lot of very qualified people with a lot of years experience on this board and many who are not who I assume you are calling the dinosaurs, there has been a great many changes in the industry since I and many others qualified back in the late 70's and not all for the good of the industry. You only have to look at the course syllabuses to see how the training has changed over the last 30+ years and not for the best, the industry has become a lot more technical and complicated yet all and sundry in the make a quick buck division of the industry seem to think it can all be delivered in a few weeks or months and sell it as a comparable product

The biggest problem the C&G have is not sticking to the entry requirements for their courses and exams but that would cost them a lot of money. The qualification bodies are trying to compete for business not set a level standard across the industry on the other side all colleges are assessed on their bums on seats and the pass results they achieve so which qualification body has the easiest course and exam will rule the day and like a cancer destroy the industry

Discrimination is something which gets in the way of employing the best qualified person for the job today.
If you interviewed 10 applicants for 1 job most of those who were not offered the job could find some discriminatory reason and not just a qualification as to why they didn't get the job and sue for compensation and get it but that is the offended litigation society we have now

Or that the College choose EAL because it's easier to pass than C&G so passes are more frequent, hence more people will chose that particular College, Crikey I'm a pesimist aren't I, don't answer that
