Who do people advertise with??

I have previously advertised with book a builder and yell but don't get many leads, I'm just wondering what works for others??

Companys been going since 2014 and is doing well but most of my work is up north and now fed up of staying away and want to be local, my local works steady but could be better.

i tried advertising in "Horse & Hounds", but got fed up with wiring stables and kennels. mind you, some of those kennel maids were fit, though. .

I'm lucky as I've never had to advertise, everything comes from recommendation. I did try [got conned into] a 'special offer' website once and submitted some pictures of work done for inclusion. Then in their wisdom they added photos of a Chinese bloke working in a server room ffs !! A complete waste of time and money.

Don't write off good old leaflet distribution. I did a 5000 drop around local area 5 years ago. I still get customers ring me saying they got a leaflet through the door.

My only regret is I should have staggered the 5000 over a longer period as I couldn't cope with the work load that came in together.

Leaflets, website, all the free advertising like Thompson, yell, bt etc... Is all I did when I went on my own self employed.

I never spent hundreds on pointless advertising. Once I started getting jobs from the leaflet drop, word of mouth did the rest.

At first I used to carry a pack of leaflets in the van - and did drops to the adjacent houses to where I was working ......

I always assumed that people wouldn’t want to employ a spark from a leaflet maybe I’m wrong and should just do it

I got a local company to do me a really good professional design. Glossy finish double sided.
It looked the bees...

Another company did the distribution.

I did deliver 200 and gave up. It's a real pain in the a** . I'd rather pay someone £8.50 an hour to deliver them and earn £35-£45 per hour myself.

As a side note I got a full rewire for a 4 bedroom house from the Fifth leaflet I delivered.

I tried a few different methods of advertising. I tried each of them for a few months separately to gain an idea of which one was best. I tried the local magazine, 2 local newspapers and leaflets. The leaflets were awful, the local magazine wasn't much better. The local newspapers were definitely the best and one in particular got me the most jobs. Perhaps try a few different methods and see which works best in your area.
