This person requires some work. They've hopefully explained their skills and qualifications and what area they're in. Otherwise, what's the bloody point?

Hi everyone, I've done the AM2 and all the portfolio except Testing and Fault Finding. I need photographic evidence showing me testing and recording results. My firm does testing but not very often and when they do it's usually last minute and rushed, making it hard to take the time to document what I'm doing.

I have;
3 Years experience on site
Tools (but not my own MFT)
Car & Licence
ECS card

Ideally I'd like to spend a day on a weekend testing and associated paperwork. Ideally with a Megger MFT as I've never used any of the others. I'm in Kent and can work anywhere in Kent, South Eastern or Central London.

Thanks in Advance!

I had the same issue you had.
The company I worked for didn't want anyone unqualified let loose with a tester. Not even if I was supervised.

So I went on eBay bought myself a tester and got pictures of me testing the installation in the flat I was renting.
Then took the tester to work,
expertly and covertly, snuck myself and my tester into a flat I was 2nd fixing and on my (extended cheekily) lunch break, I got some more pictures of me testing. Although it's kind of cheating, it's the only way I would of got the evidence to complete my NVQ. You do know how to test properly right? If so, there's no harm in fabricating a little evidence. Ask the police, they do it all the time.

Ask your firm if you can borrow their megger to fabricate some testing at home. I know it might sound like a megger is a lot of money to lend out to someone, but at the end of the day its a lot less than your week/months wages as insurance

Most nvq assessors i have come across are masters of fabrication. They know what to add in to tick the box.
Could book a room at the ibis budget hotels. They all have there own cu behind the toilet panel in the shower pod. Could test that with pics etc...
Worse case pop around the estate agents make an offer on an empty place. Then ask to do an eicr. Take your pics and produce your nvq evidence then tell agent you werent happy with the electrics and walk off.

Few firms are going to want someone unqualified doing the testing, yet you have to show evidence of you testing, and preferably filling in forms.

NVQ assessors are aware of this catch 22 situation and will sign off your work provided you can convince them you know what you're talking about - there's little harm in doing a preliminary test before the 'official' one and noting your results on a model form downloaded for free from the IET website.

You would think for this sort of thing the company would put OP in with someone who tests for a day.
Something that is not mentioned on threads is that some companies do not want you to grow. Do not want you to look good in front of the customers. I experienced this in small companies, especially family run businesses.

That about sums it up, fabricate some evidence, jeez what next buying a portfolio on ebay?

Yes Pete, you can buy the portfolio on ebay but it's not going to help you in the long run. At least if you simulate the installation then you are actually doing the work and competent to do so. PS if you buy the portfolio on ebay then you're probably not at the stage where you can succeed the am2, and resits can take a long time to re-book

Just to answer some of the points raised;

1; I tried to test at the house we rent but found some sketchy previous work (one ring for the house, 3 cables in the breaker) and the light fittings are delicate so I don't want to touch any of it. A real PITA as we only moved in a few months ago and our previous flat would have been ideal .
2; I won't name names yet but the company I paid to do the portfolio with have been utterly ---- and have done me zero favours. Two workmates had it done well within a year: I've been on it 18 months and still not finished. Would have sacked them off but I've paid in full already.
3; I don't think my firm are being deliberately obstructive they just don't seem to take testing very seriously and treat it as a nuisance.
