Hello. I'm an engineer and serial DIYer on both cars and my house. Over years I've tackled many projects including a full re-wire and all new plumbing and heating system on my last house. I like to do things properly and neatly, even where the work will for ever be hidden from sight.
If it...
Need a 6a RCBO for a lighting circuit otherwise it’s a 18 circuit board change!
Had a quick search on here, and Alto is Wylex rebranded?
If so, will the NHX mini RCBO series be a suitable replacement?
I'm not going to bore you with the details but Thursday I upped sticks and came to Minehead for a holiday by myself.
Great food, nice hotel, nice people and weather is fantastic.
I did pack my laptop and was hell bent on not using it here, HOWEVER...
My first day I walked the beaches, walked...
Got an odd one.
Supply is TPN TN-CS and all looks reasonably tidy but the circuit schedules bear little resemblance to the DB contents.
I have a piece of fixed equipment that is generating intermittent faults and tripping the C16 RCBO. The circuit tests fine at 999MOhms at 500V on IR. So it's...
One of my favourite customers (also my hairdresser !) has asked me to provide a socket for her recent purchase...
' Don't worry she says, its plug & play, just a normal socket..'
The electrical guidance is attached, can anyone spot what's wrong ? apart from..er..everything.
No mention of class 1...
I'm a commercial catering engineer from nottingham with all my gas tickets. Have some electrical experience (more to do with machine fault diagnosis) but I am currently doing my c&g 2365. Completed level 2 and now about half way through level 3. I have also completed my 18th addition. All...
Hello,
No formal certification here, just grew up watching my Dad and Grandfather do things on their own and learned a little in schools and most from doing and searching.
I'm the typical "jack of all trades, master of none" and I know enough to get myself into trouble by getting in over my...
Hi All.
Sorry for not introducing myself and asking a question on my firs post, but I have been losing sleep lately...
An electrician went into flat and did EICR. Would not give a copy until I paid up front and now says I need a new fuse box etc £850 + worth of work. My flat is tenanted and...
I have a square D panel(QOC16UF) with a 20 amp breaker(plus others). This breaker is too small to handle the various outlets and light fixtures in the small kitchen and living room. I purchased a 30 amp breaker and wonder if I can unscrew the front panel from the wall, turn off the main breaker...
Hi all, at 56 I decided to get the qualifications to be a domestic installer and here I am!
Now I just need to get the experience and that’s where I’m hoping you can all help.
Thanks in advance. ?
Hi, a friend has just sent me this snippet from their hot tub instructions asking for advice.
Its a plug in hot tub. Also specified are a 30mA circuit and a 10mA PRCD.
Any thoughts? As I said, its and inflatable, plug in, temporary hot tub
Hi.
excuse my ignorance. I have seen this before. Why is the phase in this picture taken through two of the poles in this manner?
the isolator is wired in exactly the same way with the phase going through line contact out the top and back through another pole.
what am i missing please...
Sorry for all the questions

Just done an EICR.
Bonding to water stop cock present.
Bonding to gas. Unknown.
The gas meter is in a cupboard outside. No bonding there. The boiler is on the wall directly behind gas meter and over kitchen cupboards.
I suspect the gas pipe comes in through the wall behind kitchen...
While idle on YouTube I saw this video showing the comparison of HRC fuse and MCCB with some spectacular results at high (63kA!) but in-specification faults:
I have a Square D panel for my apartment with following breakers: 1 double 40,2 double 30's and 4 single 20. One of the 20's controls a convection cooking panel, a small toaster, an 11 watt microwave, living room lights, n HDTV and my Internet. When all the above are on, during the past few...
I have an outdoor electrical subpanel with a nearby outlet. We've plugged an extension cord with a built-in GFCI into it , but the GFCI trips every time, with any device plugged in. When we plug the same GFCI/device into a different outlet near the house, it works fine.
We've replaced the...
So my old client asked me to look at the eicr and quote he had done on 1 bed rented property to see if i can sort it. It looked like one of those in and out in 1hr report but the quote to put it all ok was over 2k for board change and sorting some high zs reading on sockets.
Looked at the...
Howdy folks. Complete electrical numpty back again with another basic question with a basic answer that I can't find an answer to elsewhere online.
I am setting up an auxiliary fuse block/relay set up on my motorcycle. I have attached a photo of what my basic fuse block/relay system will be...
Afternoon folks
I've been sat on a prickly fence since last Summer, contemplating if I should pick up my qualies again and seek out a position as a Mate/Improver.
I took redundancy last Summer from a job I absolutely hated, yet paid well. I then landed into a role I was already doing a bit of...
