Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well in these trying times.
I'm planning an extension to my house, and I'm looking to have a second consumer board fitted inside the extension. I'm hoping I can feed this new board from the meter box and not as a sub-board from the original consumer unit...
Sorry if this is obvious but I thought discrimination was for down stream?
I want to feed and outdoor unit which only requires 6am and 16amp, it has a little sub board with these breakers but a 100a main switch, my supply is a 32a commando outlet.
Should I feed existing sub board with existing...
I'm a mechanical manager with some electrical background (2330 L2 from college, 18th ed, 2392).
About to be an M+E manager so need to brush up on areas I'm unfamiliar with - 3 phase wiring and testing is the big one.
Is there anyone in London area with access to a (used) 3phase board who can...
Just a question I’ve always been taught no but some of the older guys say yes and newer guys say no and just wondering if anyone has a clear answer for me ?
When working on circuits do you isolate whole board or just the final circuits using MCBs ? Or is there any instances when the whole board has to be isolated even if you are working on few final circuits?
Thanks.
Hello, wanting to install a new (old) MCCB in an Dorman Smith Loadline board, found a couple online, however, the client ordering the works is not keen on installing old breakers, so they would rather us connect tails onto the busbar stubs where the breaker would usually be, fashion some kind of...

Hi all, looking for some advice with regards to extending cables for a consumer unit change. The old board is a mess inside with cables being cut short etc. What's your go to method for extending. When I've only had to extend a couple I've used the Ideal inline splice connectors, but this is...
This was commenced at 2.30pm today after having to locate and rectify an open neutral on a ring, missing earth continuity on a lighting circuit and 2 sockets spurred off the cooker. ? It's as good as I could make it with the older T&Es , and annoying that everything barring 2 lives of a ring...
Hi,
I want to add a change over switch so that a portable backup petrol generator can be used when grid power goes down. As it has in Victoria. On referring to AS/NZS 3010:2017 to connect a portable generator. Figure 4.3 on page 57 shows a 1 pole Circuit Breaker in the active wire between the...
The board in the picture below has 2 x RCBO's in it, they look like matches so I'm guessing schneider is the new merlin gerlin and that these RCBO's are a perfect fit?
However, Schneider seem to do other RCBO's. Easy9, acti9 and others. The Acti9 looks like it may fit this board but it is more...
Hello all
Just some input needed
I have 16mm meter tails & earth looks undersized coming unto the board also. I want the consumer unit changed, I understand that the tails need to be 25mm & earth 10mm I spoke with my electricity supplier who is going to get the technical department to call...
I want to replace my current 6 gang switch board with a glass panel switch board. Bought it online. But when I got the board I realised it's bigger than my current board and it won't fit in the current hole. I can make a bigger hole but the current clip won't fit either. I tried Bunning they...
Hello guys, completely forgot to remove the board cover to check what type of rcbo was required for this particular Crabtree board. Anyone from experience know which type RCBO fits?
thanks in advance!!
Hi,

Just wondering what is correct and should...
Have had an estimate accepted for a CU change in a 1980s bungalow. I based the estimate mainly on an EICR which was carried out on the property by another spark last summer, plus I had a quick look at the existing board, meter, and bonding.
The EICR has all circuits listed as ref method C...
