What are your thoughts on people wanting to be ultra neat when wiring inside boards?

I get wanting to do a good job but does being super neat inside a board really make it a better job? I don't see any advantage to it aside from aesthetics and if it's something that's not seen then....what's the point in obsessing over how neat it all looks? To me it's a bit like a kitchen...

Which mid-range boards (if any) have Type 1 SPDs available

Next week I've got a single phase CU change that's a sub-main fed by an over-air cable run supported by catenary wire. By rights I believe this should have a Type 1 SPD. My normal go-to board (Fusebox) doesn't seem to list a Type 1 device in their catalogue. I wondered if anyone can suggest any...

    Distribution boards location

Hi, I have never come across this before but is it OK to put a DB on the ceiling. We have had some cabins in and the db's are all on the ceiling. I have said this is wrong but my supervisor insists it is OK. Any input would be appreciated.

Sources for SPD RCBO type A boards.

Hi all, With Amendment 2 here has anyone found any good suppliers for SPD and RCBO domestic boards? I've found online a BG SPD + 8 RCBOs for about £190 which is about £40 cheaper than the local wholesaler. Are there any better deals out there for decent boards (I've seen 'Live' offering online...

Bundy makes the Rolls Royce of temp site boards ...

(In the old days we would just lop off the plug top of a 4 way extension lead and wire the flex straight into the meter for a temp site hook up)

Do 3 phase boards usually have RCD protection in commercial settings?

Just sat contemplating life and realised i don't think i've ever seen any RCD protection on the boards we maintain/install at work. I've seen 300mA protection on some section boards but don't recall ever clocking a 30mA in a 3 phase board. Am i just not looking properly?

    Max Zs multiple boards

Had a bit of a brain freeze. Got to go and do an inspection on a property with 2 consumer units, the 2nd fed from the first on a 50A MCB. Let's say theoretically I get 0.2 for the Ze on the main board, then 0.3 for the Zdb at the second board and 0.2 for R1+R2 on a ring final on a 32A MCB. Is...

Installing dual RCD boards 18th edition

Hi sorry in advance if this is a silly question but I was recently told by a friend who is an electrician also that dual RCD boards are no longer acceptable according to the new 18th edition hence why they've become cheap to buy. I understand that RCD protection is a must and RCBO is the best...

Carrying out a refurb on old panel boards, worried about discrimination.

I am carrying out a refurbishment job on this old panel board and fitting in a new panel board from Schneider. The current supply to this building is a 100amps BS88-2 Gg (assuming). I am planning to protect the outgoing submains with the NSX100 ML 2.2 set at 100 and 63 respectively. I don't know...

    SWA sizing for sub boards

Hi guys, I'm working in a new role which requires me to size SWA cable to feed sub boards which in turn supply EV chargers. I noticed on the jobs that have been done already they have used 50mm 4c and 70mm 4c to feed 3ph 250A main switches on the sub boards. Going by tables and calculators this...

No isolation of Neutral in Single phase boards

As title. Doing an EICR, have come across a couple of DBs, where the neutral goes straight onto the bar on Single phase boards. Whats your views on this guys? Should it have a requirement to be isolated? Is there a reg for? If so then it can be coded. My boss thinks its dangerous. I don't, but...

    Running cables in skirting boards

Hi guys, Just wanted to ask if anyone knew whether its ok to run twin and earth in a purpose built skirting board designed to enclose cables.
