Hi, Just looking for some advice. In a bedroom there are 5 downlights on a dimmer switch. When turned on, every now and again these lights can sometimes go off when the light switch for the bathroom is turned on. There are 4 down lights in the bathroom just on a 2 way switch. Can any one cast...
Our electrician inexplicably wired outdoor floodlights attached to side of house over driveway as "always hot", no switch. We don't want them always on, nor timed and also not with motion sensors. We want to turn them on and off from a regular wall-mounted switch like normal lights. All the...
Long shot but thought I’d try, have a lighting circuit that trips the RCD as soon as the neutral touches the neutral bar for said RCD. Bypass that and it works fine just on an MCB so would think earth-neutral fault, but doing an IR test between N and E shows as a pass (>99M ohm). So unsure of...
I've tried to research and form a plan without asking on here, but I'm just going around in circles.
Just completed an EICR. The wiring ranges from new metric colours to old imperial cable.
There are 2 lighting circuits, both containing class 1 fittings. Most of the fittings have a CPC, but...
Hi all,
I have a light in the under stairs cupboard which is controlled by a switch in the hall.
The under stairs cupboard is being taken out soon, meaning the light will be redundant so obviously I would like to make safe and remove it.
There is no loop in/out at the light fitting...
Trying to replace light fitting that was previously removed before I saw it, works off 2 switches either side of room.. permanent live seems to be middle cable.. I know one links to upstairs circuit .. can only get permsnt live not switching.. can’t get my head around it

Can I ask a question and make sure I’m not missing something….
Have had outside decking lights in my garden put in by an electrician, using a FCU as the switch for them spured off an existing single gang socket.
Fused a few times over winter, Likley due to water or moisture in the lights or the...
Hi all,
Replaced a ceiling light yesterday (I'm a novice but confident with basic electrical work). All was well and working, so I turned off the lights and only at night realised the lighting circuit had tripped. Removed the new light today, assuming there was some issue with the wiring -...
Hi! I have a fixture that flickers for maybe 15 seconds when I first turn it on. Then it stops flickering and functions normally.
Then if I were to turn the switch on soon after it stops, there is no flickering.
Then if I wait 30min or so and turn it on again, it flickers just briefly again...
Hi,
I've just had some electrical work completed in the bathroom; I've recently refurbished the bathroom, replacing the old electric shower with a mains/mixer. I had bought an inline fan and a separate humidistat/run-on timer module with the idea that it could be installed using the old...
Hello
I have recently moved home and I looking to upgrade lighting across the house to LED.
In the kitchen I have found that there is installed a mains powered lighting circuit which serves five LED lamps (surface mounted and recessed) Included within the same circuit is a junction box into...
I am having a flat roof constructed with solar panels over. As it is a cold, vented flat roof I will be having 175mm of Cellotex insulation immediately above the ceilings which I am reluctant to dig into to fit downlights (which I have never been the world's biggest fan of anyway). My thoughts...
Whilst having some building work done we discovered a stone lined well under our new kitchen floor , It is 25' deep and hand dug (through shillet) we think in the 1600s. Water level is about 4' down and the water is crystal clear. It is quite an amazing extraordinarily well built thing which...
Hi everyone, newly qualified spark here I went to a job earlier today where the fan was not running on after light had been turned off. Whilst sorting this problem I discovered that the bathroom circuits had been installed on a new rcd db but investigating further in the light and the pull...
Good afternoon!
I've recently wired a lighting system, where one light switch (a motion sensor) turns on two lights, but another motion sensor switch turns on just one.
Here is my wiring schematic: (In the schematic, the transformer connects to a 12V LED and the spotlight runs on 230V mains.)...
Looking to wire a summerhouse with Downlights and outside lighting but don’t really do much lighting and switching.
Any advice on how to wire a lighting radial for the spots and outside lights to a 2 gang switch.
Thanks
My 1990 property does not have the lighting circuits protected by the Distribution Board RCCB.Only the power circuits are protected. If I get a trip from the RCCB the lights stay on.
Do I need to upgrade my system to include RCCB for lighting?
Hi all
Got a question regarding HMO compliance. Visited property today for landlord looking to apply for an HMO license for one of their properties. She hasn't received any detailed stipulations from council on requirements for emergency escape lighting although this will be required as...
