Hello!
After years of renting I'm currently in the process of purchasing our first property. We've had an offer accepted on a 1 bedroom flat in Surrey. However there are questions over the electrics, and knowing little about electrical wiring I'm a bit stumped on how bad the electrics are and...
As can be seen from my profile I am not a qualified electrician but I'm studying in my own time just for the sake of it. I understand the principals of earthing and bonding but in this video by GSH Electrical....

Hi guys
I asked this question on a recent thread abd was referred to some earlier posted videos but this didnt give me the answer i was looking for.
My question is this. If you have something metallic in a property that isnt plugged in...say for arguement sake a metal pole that came out the...
I am sure there are far more time wasters contacting me than a few years ago, or is it just me being grumpier in older age. I think I'm usually good at sussing out the time wasters and I would say that around a third of the people who contact me I don't even arrange to quote them as I believe...
At a house viewing I saw a dozen electric radiators connected mainly by plugs into wall sockets, one or two (in bathrooms) connected to fused spurs. I calculated nearly 14Kw and I'm given to understand all these rads are connected to either of two ring mains with 32A breakers.
A quick look at...
I'm currently an overhead Lineman working on the railways 25kv system, the work is purely mechanical and most of us have zero training in Electrical theory for the most part.
I'm looking to do the C&G lvl 2&3 (2365) through distance learning with ableskills to gain the necessary qualifications...
Hi there,
Thought I'd post this here before I go ahead trying to hire someone, when it's something I can do myself. My bathroom extractor has packed up (seemingly). Very limited knowledge of electronics so don't want to start taking things apart. I can't tell if this piece of material is jammed...
Hi folks,
In your opinion, do you think there would ever be a situation where an RCD (presuming it worked) would not pick up a problem that a megger test would? i.e an RCD would trip if there was ever a L-E, N-E or L-N fault
Evening all..
I have just been to a clients house to quote for some work and when checking the Main bonding I noticed that it just had a 10mm attached to the gas pipe and then straight into a separate earth rod, it was the same for the water (had it's own earth rod).
I realise that this would...
Has anyone ever encountered a fault with a RCD which causes a potential on earth in respect to neutral?
I am a trainee electrician, working with an experienced electrician. We encountered a fault today, earth had a potential of 238V in respect to Neutral and a 0 V potential in respect to...

Hi Lads
ive classed this as a C2 and there is also no RCD protection? Was told I'm being harsh but I don't think so. Also how would you choose to rectify it?
Thanks
I'm writing up an EICR. On one of the lighting circuits the potential load is theoretically about 1300W on a 5A BS3871 breaker. In reality, the arrangement has been in place for at least 8 years there are no signs of thermal damage, it is difficult to find lamps these days that would max out all...
Hello lads,
Right here goes I get a call of a plumber who's on a job doing a boiler chop..... He calls saying I've just tested the boiler spur and I'm getting strange readings.
So being the helpful sparky I am I plod along over to his job I have a quick look at this spur must be 15 years old...
I was going to just add on to Voltz's thread but it seemed to come to a natural end but I had some questions.
1. A few experienced members say that you should not extend the (equipotential zone) EPZ of a PME system. Am I right in thinking that this is because of the possible potential between...
I carried out a EICR and the main switch for the consumer unit is only rated at 60 amps and the main supply fuse is a BS1361 rated at 100 amps.
Im thinking this should be a C2, what are your thoughts please.
Many thanks
Martin
Hi, I understand according to 411.3.1.2, that main metalic services incomming must be bonded to MET. but what if the water pipe is shared from another property?
The premises has its own electrical supply, but the incoming water is not individual but shared.
I believe i should still Bond. Could...

Hi All,
I was advised by a member of another tech forum to ask for help over here. We have had an influx of Rats & Mice at our home over the last six months.
We got very badly screwed over by a Pest Controller that was recommended to us - he told us that he had checked the drains & that was...
