Downlights if fitted horizontal ie in a wall do they retain the fire rating I have my doubts on this as the side of the can will take most of the heat ??

Went to look at a simple job, where the customer wants a number of recessed downlights installed in there bathroom replacing their existing fitting. They have bought their own 'B&Q special' fittings although they are not fire rated, and as i normally like to fit fire rated downlights i was after...

Hi guys,
been to a job today A/C unit not running only installed 5 months ago, I found the outdoor isolator to be full of water but the glands looked ok and also the seals,
would it be normal practice to silicone the back of the unit against the wall to stop any rain running down the back of the...
Hi, my friends got a spa bath and wants it wired in. I was thinking of running some 10mm t&e under the bath into a ip65 junction box, then into the pump underneath. I can't find anything in the regs or part p which says anything about this so could to with some advice. Also would need some type...
Hi, maybe somebody came across bathroom lights they are similar to standard pendants? My customer wants me to supply and fit bathroom lamp which should look as close as a standard 6inch light pendant. Couldn't find nowhere.
Thanks

Hi
I have a Radial circuit wired with 2.5mm T&E , which is protected by a 3 amp MCB due to the fact that it is switched via a home automation relay rated at 5amp.
My question is this
Given the above scenario is it ok to install/wire a BS1363 socket if I know that the load that will be...
What are the regulations around downlights having to be fire rated or non fire rated? Im looking to put downlights in our new home and keep getting told different reasons for using fire rated ones. Really need to find out if we can get around using fire rated downlights as the cost does tend to...
I know the difference between the 2 sorts but I'm thinking do I need to fit 10KA breakers in this scenario, when I've got 6KA MCBs in the van!
3 phase DB, Isc 4.9KA (phase to earth), all circuits from this DB are single phase. Will never be 3 phase in future (HMO).
Worst case short circuit...
I've got some Legrand dimmer modues, 7354-46.
They are rated at 300w but with the setup that I have I'd really like to use one of them on a circuit with a load of 420w.
I've read before that MK dimmers can handle 200% of their rated load.
Anyone know how much these Legrand dimmers can handle...
Hi guys,
I'm doing a load of EICRs for the firm I am working for. They look after lots of different properties and they are all due EICRs.
Many are installs from 10-15 years ago and feature non fire rated downlights in flats with habitable space upstairs. The ceiling is single skin regular...

A flat with a multitude of downlights. I am not convinced that the G5.3 fittings are firerated and they are mounted through a double boarded ceiling which is a fire barrier (confirmed with the original architects). The fittings are made from a pressed metal which is very thin and...
I'm going to stick my neck out here and put myself up for ridicule.
Given that SWA rated to 90C can only be run at said conductor temp IF the accessories its connected to are rated to that temp also. Are there any sockets etc (ideally metalclad) out there rated to that temperature? As I've had a...
I'm fitting a number of GU10 down lights and am having a problem with the earth conductor - these units have a cheap nasty terminal block with all three connectors presented - L/N down to the usual moulded GU10 plug, no worries there.
The earth is riveted onto the side of the downlight itself...

Hi guys
After some opinions I've been asked to install some halogen spotlights in a pub and I'm wondering if I should use fire rated ones or not. There is no accommodation above or below!

Hi all, Does anybody have a link to a guide for retro fitting downlights to an existing ceiling? the main point being assessment as to whether fire rated fittings are required. Obviously the belt & braces approach is best ie fit fire rated regardless but occasionally there are other factors such...
Hi all,
As an apprentice I know a small amount about IP ratings and would like advise on whether the bathroom light in my parents house is IP rated.
My thoughts is that it does not look IP rated and I can't see an IP rating on the fitting. My parents seem to thing that it was an IP fitting...
