Hello,
DIY enthusiast, but no real skills! Our fan oven stopped heating so I thought I would replace the heater element. When I have taken it apart, it looks as if part of the wiring may have come off. There is a clip on the right hand side with no wire coming from it. Will this be the issue...
Hello All, My name is Tom and I know just enough about electrical work to be dangerous, thus I usually have a professional do the work. That said, the most complex activity that prompts my question only requires the ability to change a bulb.
I have 10 individual lights in our bathroom that...
I’m struggling to find how to replace a 16W GR10q bathroom bulb with an LED which is brighter. I’ve read that I need to bypass or remove the ballast but it looks like the 4 pins is actually part of the ballast. Can someone please advise me?
Hi everyone, can I install an EATON Rcbo in place of an MEM C32 MR30 Rcbo? I understand that Eaton have bought MEM, our merged. I know it's not good working practice and can invalidate insurance but I'm struggling to find an MEM C32 Rcbo and the client isn't going to replace the whole board.
Just carried out an EICR on a flat that was wired in the 70s - with singles run in earthed conduit to each point and the trunking providing the earth at each socket/light point.
Ground floor flat, so needs RCD protection on sockets at least and seems due a CU change, but I have no experience...
Greetings!
We have a ceiling fan with a 4-bulb light fixture. The fan switch of the original Lutron Maestro MA-LFQ35 combo switch quit working, but the light side continued to work, including dimming. I could not find the same switch online, and went to a local electrical / lighting store...
Run into this today at a house my nephew is moving into....
Original Dolphin 860 Shower (8600W) installed on 6mm Twin and Earth - maybe 15m length from the CU, which is an old MK board installed in 1986, but RCD protected - on a 45A MCB.
So far so 'normal'....
However, there is 2.5 T&E...
Hi. My mother bought a miguard g5 system a few years ago. It looks like the control panel has given up on her!
She has all the sensors around her home already but the control panel appears to be obsolete now. Am I correct in thinking that any 433mhz control panel will work with the sensors she...
Hi all,
I have an Old bosch router that has had a suppresson capacitor fail.
I can't get a replacement part to match and was wondering if i could just remove it and carry on. Would this be safe?
It is an 0.1uF X 2 x 2500nFY and has three wires, its inline with the negative wire from the...
Hi
I know it sounds very grand but it really isn't - and, especially not seeing as there has been, and still is, no travel due to Covid for so long now - but I have a house in rural Italy I bought and have been doing up for 6 years now.
It's an old stone house and domestic electricity came after...
Morning all,
Does anyone know if there is a replacement part for this discontinued one?
I’ve seen some second hand ones floating about on eBay, but if I can’t find a brand new alternative then I’ll have to change the whole board.
I’ve sent Schneider an email almost a week ago and still haven’t...

Old Ashley Rock batten lampholder broken.
Is there a newer replacement that I can just change the lampholder part rather than the whole thing? Would make a 2 minute job change to 10 if I had to replace the whole thing.
CEF have Hager Ashley but don’t look like they fit the old bases.
The bases...
I'm replacing a flood light with a new one.
When I took off the back of the new light for wiring I noticed that the fourth terminal to the right has a red wire at the top and a white one beneath it. See photo
That has confused me a little as the old lamp had the black wire going into the...
Hi. First floor lighting circuit all comes back to one box with 3x 10way terminal strips and a single earth point. Power comes from main CU (1.5mm) and is connected to live and neutral blocks and then switches and light fittings wired back using the 3rd block (that is live via switch to switch...
Greetings everyone. My first post here, having read a similar thread, I understand that following the manufacturers guidance is all important. So, if anyone could help please, here's my question :
I am replacing a single fan oven currently connected using a 13A plug into a socket which is...
a fuse carrier is broken in 6way mem board with no rcd protection , it makes sense to upgrade to rcbos like other boards in the installation..
My question is , I'm nearly certain there is borrowed neutral on the lighting circuits and he won't want a wire fitted from kitchen to landing to...
Hello,
In a single tube strip light the ballast quit after 30 years of service. The only replacement I could find was for a fixture of two tubes (see attached). It has pairs of yellow, red, and blue wires. Viewing the diagram, it appears either the red or the blue pairs should be used along with...
Hi I'm changing an old ceiling light but I have more wires than I was expecting. Please see the pictures below.
If I leave the connection block with the red cables in and then buy some connection strip the same as what the red wire is connected to can I just attach the 2 black wires to the new...
