Probably going to get slaughtered for this, but I took a single socket off this to replace with another single socket that was smashed, but I was met by all of these wires and some require for lives to go into one hole which is proving impossible considering that’s how it was wired in the first...
Hello fellow electricians,
I am currently in the midst of wiring 3 lighting fixture at my friends garage. I'm just wondering if there's an easier way to do it or if the way I'm going to do it is going to break the sensor switch.
So the situation is this: I'm going to name the lighting fixtures...
Evening all..
A friend/customer has just asked if I could connect up this commercial washing machine down at his domestic stables. He has had it in his house for 10 years. Recently it has started tripping the B40 MCB. It does not trip immediately so I don't think it is the inrush, plus it did...
This might sound like a stupid question so apologies in advance.
So I had a random thought in my head.
So I was wondering if I was to use a single phase motor to spin a three phase generator to create three phase power, would you be able to create more power then the single phase motor is...

I have a metal lathe, 1.5hp, 3phase, 575v motor. Can I just replace the motor with a single phase,220v motor? Would all the lathe wiring , switches, relays work? IF so, what HP motor should I buy? Thanks,
I need a 40A single pole contactor. The main contacts to be normally closed in the distant passed I seem to remember you could get them.
Anyone know where to get them?
Thanks in advance
Trying to replace a single run, approx 3M with no bends, of a single 1.5mm twin & earth cable between 2 lighting points in a domestic space. Cable to be mounted IN the ceiling & plastered over. Both points to carry an LED light fitting so minimal current. Is it safe to use 10mm conduit? BS7671...
I have a water temp sending kit for my old chevy. However, I don't want to use the plastic warning light it came with. I want to use my own chrome warning light because it fits the look of my dash better (51 Chevy Wagon). The kit plastic light has two prongs and is self-grounded. One prong is...
I currently have this,
Primary inductance on an AC transformer will determine the magnetizing current on the unit. Usually inductance is relatively high so the magnetizing current can be as equally low. This inductance can be seen as part of the magnetizing current; however, it will not be seen...
Hi there
I purchased goods to build a sauna back before Christmas and only now am I getting around to doing it.
I was just looking at the heater controller and noticed they they’ve sold me a unit that says it is for a 3 phase/400v supply. I did make clear I only had single phase as many...
As title.
Doing an EICR, have come across a couple of DBs, where the neutral goes straight onto the bar on Single phase boards.
Whats your views on this guys?
Should it have a requirement to be isolated? Is there a reg for? If so then it can be coded.
My boss thinks its dangerous. I don't, but...
Good morning all, I’m afraid that I’ve come here looking for some advice with a problem I have with some vehicle lifts that I have been asked to dispose of. I have listed them for sale, but I am not sure how to determine whether they have single, or three phase motors. I am now aware that any...
Do I need to have 2 power sources if I have a three way switch and a single pole switch in the same electrical box? The three way will have another switch at a different door for inside lights. The single pole will be for an outside light.
Had to do a CU change in this lovely heat, so naturally it was a bit of a bugger...
Replacing a Wylex skeleton board with Type 2 breakers for a Wylex skeleton board, as client wanted it to remain hidden.
The previous board "enclosure" was made up of the nasty brown plastic front (always...
It is a 6.5kW thermostatically controlled water heater if you ignore the rest of the gubbins.
So that would be a Purpose #6 for diversity ie: None allowed. = 28A.
But you could treat if like a cooker too. Purpose #3 ie: 10A + 30% FL current over the 10A. = 15.4A
What do you think?
Thanks
Hi guys,
Have an option of an old, but really solid superb condition and well made large +/- 200ltr compressor from Denmark. Rarely used since purchased/Build 1987.
Only supply I have is 230V Sing/Ph. Never had any dealings with 3 Ph.
First name plate.

Hi... I am Shamsul from Malaysia
I have a question regarding to earth fault current if occur inside 240V single phase customer house/building
1.May explain how the earth fault current flow route

Hi there
I preface this query with: I am an almost complete electrical novice. I need to control the speed, startup and slow down of a 2100W induction AC motor through a VFD. My workshop has ordinary Australian 240v single phase supply. I can find plenty of VFDs that convert single phase to 3...
Buoyed on by my first successful ceiling rose replacement, I’m now doing a second one, but have come across a slightly different scenario.
In this ceiling rose there are more wires than previously, so my question is, is it ok to place multiple wires into a single connector in the new light...
