Discuss 12v from 240v no neutral? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

So you have 240V between live and neutral and 12V between live and what?

I was told by a spark i am working with, that if you only use live and earth then it gives 12v ac. so it can be used to find fault on lights, if you only get voltage of 12v at non working light then it means there is a missing connection on N. He says it has been used for an install before on an old "Hot and not" heating system where the system is a "no volt" system but some of the stats used needed 240.

Okay, either your sparky friend is trying to kill you or maybe you misunderstood something.

Are you a trainee or apprentice? If so we have a special forum area for trainees where there's mentors who can help you with your studies.

I am an apprentice yes. I did not believe what he was saying as I do not see how this would work without a transformer, this is why I was checking here. Thanks

Have you ever heard of a wind up cause I think that's what he is doing to you.
