Regulation 411.3.1.2

Metallic pipes entering the building having an insulating section at their entrance need not be connected to the protective equipotential bonding.

Question is what is meant by an insulation section at the entrance:

** enters in copper but then goes plastic?

**enters plastic then Copper?

Confused a little can someone shed some light.

Agree @Murdoch's post. Can't wait for the arm wrestling matches with the Gas Safe folks. Pic courtesy of PE and Elecsa.

Personally I think it is written well.

METALLIC PIPES entering - ie metal mains gas and water on the suppliers side.

ENTERING the building - ie where they go from outside the property to inside the property.

INSULATING SECTION - ie non-conductive.

So if a metallic suppliers pipe is seperated from the customers metallic pipe with a piece of plastic pipe at the point at which it enters the building or just after the meter it does not need bonding.

Have you got a link to the article you took the picture from mate?
It’s in the NICEIC publication ‘site guide for Electrical installations 18th edition’.
Yes I was sad enough to buy a copy.......

Cheers @Ian1981 and @Wilko. I can see this reg throwing up all sorts of problems with Gas Installers, and also the DNO on new connections. A picture in a book may be the best way to get them to understand anything.
