I've finished my level 3 2365 in college and I've been working as electrical improver for 2 years. I want to work on getting my gold card now. I wanted to go with quickstep but they say you suppose to be a practicing electrician for 3 years to go with them. I'm thinking now about xs training but as it is all online and I'm a little worried that if there would be something I have a problem doing they wouldn't be much help. Any other ideas which company should I pick to do my nvq3 and amt2?

I have not got a clue TBH but I didn’t think there was a time limit set in stone when you’re eligible to complete your NVQ. I would think if you’ve got plenty of work on and be able to demonstrate completing the relevant units that would be it.

I also completed mine with XS Training, they're the best value for your money. But I recommended only doing your NVQ through them as you can get your AM2 much cheaper somewhere else

Think they charge £1100+VAT for an assessor built portfolio. They video call you while you're at work and observe you working and ask you questions and then write it all up for you, or you can pay £780+VAT and write them up yourself. It's easy if you know what you're doing and not just copying someone else's work.

If you're not sure about anything then all you do is ask your assessor or ask some of the guys you're on site with, XS Training really do go above and beyond to help out

also you've got the forums here to help you out, you can always message me and I'll happily guide you through anything.

I finished my NVQ in 2016, I was one of the last to finish the 2356 and I didn't have to do the AM2 for a gold card, I also didn't need to do the 17th because my tech certs were to the latest edition of the regs at the time.

You do need to do the AM2 now because you need it to complete the new 2357 NVQ think it's counted as your last module 399.

Wasn’t there a cut off date for the am2? If you signed up for nvq3 before that date then no am2 but now the am2 is a definite
Yeah there was, you had to enrol on a course before the end of 2013 but the last certification date was December 2016, I enrolled on it and then didn't do anything until April 2016 and finished it on the 17th November 2016
I found out my girlfriend was pregnant in the September before hand and got a rocket up my bum to get it done

I finished in about 2008, so it seems theyve decided to take part out of a well rounded qual so you have to spend more money on another course! God this trade is one big scam!

Had my part p yearly review a month back, apaparantly the iet are considering holding some changes back for 18th amendment 1 aswell !!!

They've dumbed down the AM2 too, you don't have to put up any metal containment anymore because it's all put up for you, you just instal cabling and test.
