hi guys,

ive got my unit 308 next week. Its the practical part for finding faults.

does anyone who has already done this unit have any tips for possible faults that they must put on the boards for me to find?

thanks maggie

yeah i understand them

and i realise if i just go through my tests i should find them all.

but it is a practical exam so they likely to be some sneaky ones through in.

plus it would help take the pressure of.

Im not saying it because i wont find them by any means, but you know what its like under exam conditions.

Well we have been there, some pass some don't. They won't be trying to trip you up or anything just think logically, take your time. Talk to the assessor too I am sure they will help you or at least give you pointers should you miss anything.

yeah i know your right. im pretty confident to be honest as ive been doing alot of testing lately with an electrician plus only did my 307 last week which is all the testing and inspection stuff.

Its just a pain and would be a shame if ya missed something so obvious and had to re do it. lol

Well, if it's obvious you won't miss it, will you!

I'm sure they'll use the same rigs that they use(d) on the 2360 and 2391 courses. Its a test layout board with a circuit or two. They have a bunch of switches at the back where they can put on some faults - like a resistance on one leg of a ring, or an insulation resistance fault between a couple of conductors, etc

I'm not sure how deep the 308 module goes, you may need to move on to some live tests so they may have an RCD that operates outside its limits.

There may be a requirement to do a visual check first. If so so look for stuff like copper showing, cables with no strain relief, lighting strappers with no brown sleeve.

Just go through the test procedure that has been drummed into you:6:and you can't go wrong....
