Hi all.

I'm booked onto the 2394 and 2395 combined course next week.
Obviously I'm swatting up on Regs book and guidance note 3, but I would greatly appreciate and advice from anyone who recently taken the course.

Cheers

I would concentrate more on GN3 than BS7671. There isn't much in the regs about I&T that isn't covered in GN3. If you've read the book cover to cover a couple of times by the time the course starts (and understand most of it!) that'll put you in really good stead.

Don't forget the practical aspects of the qualifications too... be comfortable and confident in your inspection and testing techniques, as described in GN3. This includes the forms, and (for the inspection part of I&T) what things you should check from the big long list.

Finally, if you've not done so already, get used to using the correct terms for everything. You might call it an MFT, or (for measuring continuity) a "continuity tester," but the correct term (that they will expect you to use) is a "low resistance ohmmeter." Stuff like that.

Good luck! :)

Might be an idea to buy your own tester if you don't have one. Then practice on your home, your mom's and your mates. The time allowed for the practical is two hours. Of this it takes 20 minutes to write up the certificate/report, twenty minutes to open and close switches sockets etc. Leaves you just an hour twenty to do the actual work and you need to move along steadily.
