Discuss 3 plate wiring at switch?? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

As a training electrician i yesterday came across, for the first time, the 3 plate wiring method wired into a switch. I was slightly confused on how to terminate this? There were 3 twin and earths present (feed in, feed out and what i assume is a switch line and neutral?) and a 3 core seeing as it was a two way switch. Any help would be appreciated because, as i said, it left me slightly confused as i had never came across this before. Thanks in advance.

yep, L/N in, swl/N out, 2 way switch with 3 core and L/sl. neutrals in choc block. sometimes it's easier to wire this way than llop in at the fittings. also has the advantage of a neutral at the switch position, ideal for adding things like porch lights without having a load of chasing new plaster and decoration

It's being done a lot more for use in mobile/park homes/caravans for example where all wiring is under floor.
Basically you loop N's when you would have looped L's at light.
Also means with a deeper switch box loads more room for looping than in fancy light fittings & the dreaded downlights.
Easier for PIR later too, N available for 'no-trip' connections
