You can get away with 6mm if the cable is clipped direct or is in free air. Though i always prefer wiring larger showers in 10mm.
4m is his given length but cant believe this is the full circuit length so how can you work this out without a realistic length he only gave the length to a dp switch and im assuming the shower aint in the meter cupboard.

Was only going by the cable size calculator that someone posted earlier and i put in a total length of 16m and it still gave me a result of 6mm try it. As i said 10mm is best.

Problem with the cable calc online is its too basic and dosnt take other factors into account its fine if your clipping in free air but we dont know enough to recommend this answer it will all change if the cable goes through loft insulation for example these minor details but significant points make the difference between good installation and an unsafe one. It would be better for c.boy to give us more detail before suggesting an answer as he will probably take the advice as good.
Sorry Pennywise not meant to sound like im having a go at you but applies to all who comment as this (lad) will take what advice is given and maybe be misdirected.

No offense taken, i do understand people can take things very literally if it suits them and can be misdirected with information that doesn't directly relate to their situation. In most cases it is probably easier to give less choices on solutions and always advise for the worst case scenario. cheers

As i thought!!! the shower is already bought, few month back!!!and the shop aint changing it!!a did say buy a 8kw but fell on deaf ears!!! so be it,they will have to get me some 10mm then.thanks to all!!!

fitted a 9.5kw shower instructions said it should be fitted on 40A breaker
so did this and it kept trippin

manufacturer said they are changing their booklet to advise 45A breaker

6mm cable can only carry 42 amps

so anything above 8.5 kw fit a 10 mm cable
